October 5, 2016 – Open Forum

The October meeting will feature an open forum instead of a formal demo. Bring a turning problem, project or tool that you’d like to get some advice on.

There have been several requests for a demo on turning live-edge bowls. If you’re interested in doing a live-edge demo, please contact Johnna Klukas at jyklukas@jykboxes.com or at the October Southern Maine Woodturners meeting.

PLEASE CONSIDER SERVING OUR CLUB

The Nomination Committee is in the process of searching for members in good standing that are interested in serving the club as Secretary or Treasurer.

These positions are for a two year term and commence in January 2017. Please contact Bruce Delugo (delbruce [at] aol.com), or Woody Leland (woody.leland [at] gmail.com).

Time is running short; elections will take place at the November meeting.

Our October meeting was opened by our club president, Leon Lowell @ 6:35 pm.

  • Along with 37 members present, were 3 visiting turners.
  • Leon noted that elections for Treasurer & Secretary, for 2-year terms, will take place at the November meeting.
  • Karl Jacobsen briefly talked about the club’s mentoring program, which he has been taking care of since its conception. Karl will look into if the club insurance covers turners who are being mentored at a member’s home.
  • A new type of open forum was held in lieu of a formal demonstration for the October meeting, which addressed member’s specific questions or problems pertaining to woodturning.
  • Bill Housley then presented a number of member’s turnings in the Show & Tell segment, followed by the raffle, which concluded at 8:30 pm.

– Roland Martin, Secretary
